As a graduate of the Machine Tool Technology program, a wide array of careers become possible occupations. Our graduates are qualified to seek jobs as machinists, production machinists, manufacturers, tool and die makers, computer numeric control operators programmers, and quality inspectors.
The world of machinists is quite different than what many might expect. With the advent of the computer numeric control machining, the greasy and noisy machines of the past have been all but replaced by more modern computer-driven machinery.
Advanced Technology
The Hamilton Campus of Bevill State is one of only a select group of schools in Alabama to have a CNC Wire Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM). The purchase of this machine will allow MTT students to be trained in three different areas of CNC, CNC Milling machines, CNC lathes, and the CNC wire EDM. Also taught is a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) software package, MasterCAM, that will enable students to program different kinds of CNC machine tools from a personal computer.
Training and Experience are Rewarded
According to labor statistics, the number of machinist positions is expected to grow faster than average in coming years and opportunities will be very good for those with the necessary skills. The placement rate of graduates of the Bevill State Machine Tool Technology program has exceeded 95% in recent years, with many students obtaining employment prior to graduation.
With quality educational training and experience, former students of the Machine Tool Technology program at Bevill State make between $35,000 and $75,000 per year. Depending on the location of employment, graduates generally start at $14-$18 per hour and with a few years of experience can earn up to $35 per hour, with some out-of-state companies paying up to $50 per hour.
