Months of strenuous, coordinated effort in preparation for the arrival of the on-site Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) review committee were proven successful on Thursday, October 31. The committee, which visited all of the Bevill State Community College (BSCC) campuses and several off-site locations from October 28-31, issued an evaluation of “no recommendations” for the College.
BSCC President Dr. Kim Ennis said the evaluation results were a tremendous accomplishment for Bevill State. “The results of the on-site visit are a wonderful affirmation of all the hard work that has been done by so many people to make Bevill State a strong institution,” Ennis said. “As community colleges rarely receive an evaluation of no recommendations, I think this speaks volumes regarding the level of dedication put forward by our faculty and staff in advance of the committee’s visit.”
Committee members were very complimentary of the College, with one evaluator stating, “there’s something special going on here.” Because Bevill State Community College had so few compliance issues to review, the bulk of the reviewers’ time was spent evaluating the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Transforming Instructional Programs for Success (T.I.P.S).
The QEP evaluator praised the ambitious plan, noting the link between the QEP and the emphasis on student success in Bevill State’s 2017-2020 Strategic Plan and mission statement.
In June 2020, the SACSCOC Board of Trustees will review and will officially act on Bevill State Community College’s reaffirmation. “This is an exciting time for the Bevill State,” Ennis stated. “I want to express my deepest appreciation to all of the faculty, staff, and administrators who played a role in this amazingly positive outcome. Now, we have external confirmation of what we already knew — that we are doing the right things the right way to promote student success.”
