The Bevill State Adult Education program offers FREE adult literacy, basic skills, GED preparation and English as a Second Language instruction. Classes are geared to individualized instructional methods. Each learner works at his or her own educational level and pace. All instructional materials are adult oriented and are available at no cost to the learner. Any adult who is at least 17 years of age and not presently enrolled in school may participate in the Adult Education programs:
Adult Literacy Instruction/Private Tutors
Basic Skills/GED Preparation & College Readiness
Employment Preparation Services
WorkKeys/Career Readiness Certificates
GED Testing
The Adult Education program is stretching the boundaries of learning for those seeking a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) outside of the traditional classroom and into the 21st century. Classes to prepare students for the GED exam are now being offered online via the Internet. The state of Alabama is the first in the nation to offer GED preparation classes in an online program.
After students complete the required orientation process in any of the convenient classroom locations within the college's service area, those who demonstrate academic readiness are provided instructional software to install on their personal computers and work with an experienced adult education instructor that they can contact by email and/or via a message board built into the software program. The program can accommodate up to 40 students at a time in Bevill State's “virtual classroom” and provides them the same information that students receive in GED preparation courses in a traditional classroom.
